Arbonne Shake is a meal replacement shake that only has vegan ingredients such as pea protein and rice protein. It claims to be clinically tested and high in healthy fats while still having a low glycemic index.
The company claims that this blend of protein powder has several benefits provided by their plant protein blend. It’s important to determine whether or not these benefits are actually possible. So what can it really do? You can now discover the truth about Arbonne Shake in this review.
Arbonne shakes are available in chocolate and vanilla flavors. But in this review we will focus on the vanilla flavor:
The Arbonne shake has 160 calories per serving which quite a decent amount compared to other meal replacement shakes available in the market. You want your meal replacement shakes to have about 100 calories per serving, enough to keep you full but also low to keep your daily calorie intake under control. This is especially needed when you tend to add other ingredients to your smoothies, you will want your smoothies to be of 200-250 calories.
There are exactly 20 grams of the Arbonne Protein Matrix Blend and it contains:
- Pea Protein Isolate: High in pureness which produces uric acid. This can lead to gout and malfunctioning joints and kidneys. This form of a protein is low in certain essential amino acids and it’s not recommended to be taken on its own.
- Cranberry Protein: Typically very expensive protein source which only has from 25% to 30% protein. Not many studies have been performed to show exactly what the amino acid profile is. In fact, very few details exist about this ingredient. It’s unknown exactly how well digested it is, or what additional benefit it may have.
- Rice Protein: A quickly digested form of protein that can lead to nausea and diarrhea if overeaten. It’s also low in the amino acid lysine. It’s not recommended to be taken without the addition of other protein sources since it has a low amino acid profile.
This specialty formula is a vegan protein blend that tries to measure itself to other protein brands which offer more amino acids. Unfortunately, the cranberry protein isn’t well studied enough, though it’s known to have much less protein than other sources. The reason why rice and pea protein are added is so they make up for what each one is lacking in amino acids.
There’s better quality protein which doesn’t have the possibility of increasing inflammation and leading to digestive issues. 20 grams may seem like a lot, but it’s more important to look at the amino acid content, which this brand does not list the exact amounts of.
Even though the Arbonne Shake includes good proteins, the amount of fiber per serving is very low at only 1g, and we found this unusual for a “well-balanced, healthy daily shake” formula.
A good amount of fiber in your diet is necessary for optimal digestion, cleansing the body of toxins, and for weight loss since it helps you stay full and keep your systems running properly. In our opinion, 1g of fiber per shake serving is not sufficient to make this a results-driven weight loss shake option.
The arbonne shake is low in fiber but it does contain a good variety of vitamins. Each serving of this shake contains a good balance of nutrients so you are easily able to get a full days nutrients when you use this as a meal replacement shake.
Equipped with vitamins A, C, D, E and B12, the shake also includes calcium, iron, magnesium, zinc and potassium. It also includes folate; however, it uses the synthetic form of the nutrient, folic acid, which is controversial since it may not be absorbed by the body therefore utilized properly.
Also included in each shake is an “Inner G-Plex” proprietary blend of coenzyme Q10, alfalfa (leaf) powder, kelp powder and ginseng (root) powder.
Although we like that they included an additional nutrient blend in their shake, we think they could have added even more superfoods to make this shake even healthier, as well as digestive enzymes or probiotics.
Sugar and sweeteners
The Arbonne shake contains 9gms of sugar per serving which is very high for a meal replacement shake; there are many shakes that offer a lot less sugar with the same benefits and nutrients.
Sugar cane is listed in the ingredient list, which we at least commend for being a natural, raw form of sugar (sucrose).
Though, in general, the amount of sugar you consume per day is something to be wary of, as recent research continues to reveal that too much sugar may contribute to serious health issues.
Sugar also stimulates the secretion of insulin, which is the main fat storage hormone in your body. Foods with high sugar content, such as carbonated beverages, have been shown to contribute to obesity.
A great goal would be to try to curb your sweet tooth and consume as little sugar as possible –especially in your meal replacement shakes which you will be having once or twice daily.
One pack with 30 servings cost about $76, which is quite average for a meal replacement shake at $2.53 per shake. As this is a MLM you can become a consultant, you most likely get discounts on the product, however, most people are not interested in this, and just want to buy the shake.
The Arbonne shake is a great find as a meal replacement shake, it has all the essential nutrients and is quite promising. It has a great amount of protein from some very good, plant-based protein sources and a great amount of nutrients (vitamins and minerals) included.
Whereas meal replacement shake reviews show that a lot of people enjoy the taste of Arbonne shake, others found the texture chalky and unsatisfying. It also contains a low amount of fiber at 1g and a high amount of sugar at 9g.
Our analysis concludes that whereas this may be a good shake product for a busy lifestyle (minus the sugar content), it may not be the best for weight loss, and you may want to compare it to other shakes first before making your decision.
